Our Dream

Posted February 23, 2026 • by AccZess Europe Lake Cabins

Access to Nature. Zero Barriers. Zero Compromise.

I’ve been quiet the last few months.

Not because we stopped dreaming.
Not because we lost momentum.

But because we hit some bumps in the road.

Our construction bids came in higher than we anticipated. Significantly higher. And for a moment, it felt like that heavy pause you get when reality collides with vision.

We had to ask ourselves some hard questions:

Can we still build this the way we promised?
Can we keep it fully accessible — zero steps, wide doorways, thoughtful clearances, barrier-free lake access — and still be financially responsible?
Can we protect the mission and make the numbers work?

This place isn’t just a business idea. It’s personal. As a family who uses wheelchairs and mobility devices, we are building the place we’ve always searched for. So cutting accessibility wasn’t an option.

But then another curveball came.

Our attorney informed us that “Access Europe Lake” wouldn’t be trademarkable. “Access” is too common. We would need to rebrand.

Rebrand?!

After all the energy, conversations, graphics, and momentum — the idea of starting over felt overwhelming. I truly couldn’t wrap my brain around it.

But sometimes the bumps in the road really do lead to something better.

One night, brainstorming with the kids around the table, we landed on something that felt different. Something bold. Something us.

AccZess.

Access to Nature.
Zero Barriers.
Zero Compromise.

The “Z” represents exactly what we stand for. Not partial accessibility. Not “almost” inclusive. Not good enough.

Zero barriers.

And suddenly, the frustration turned into clarity.

We are now in the process of trademarking AccZess, and for the first time in months, I feel confident sharing it. Excited sharing it.

At the same time, we’ve been working closely with Carlson Erickson Builders to fine-tune the design plans. Adjusting, refining, value-engineering carefully — not stripping away the soul, but building smarter. Staying true to the mission while honoring the budget.

I’m proud to say we are very close to signing on the dotted line.

As soon as we receive final numbers, we can make our down payment and secure our place in line to build.

Fingers crossed we can lock in our spot this week.

We hope to break ground mid-year.

This journey hasn’t been linear. It hasn’t been easy. But it has made us clearer, stronger, and even more committed.

Sometimes the detours create the better destination.

And we cannot wait to welcome you to AccZess.

Access to Nature.
Zero Barriers.
Zero Compromise

Our Dream

Posted September 22, 2025 • by AccZess Europe Lake Cabins

Imagine waking up to birdsong in the trees, sipping coffee on a screened porch, and ending the day with your toes in the cool waters of Europe Lake. For us, that vision isn’t just a daydream — it’s the foundation of something bigger: creating wheelchair-accessible cabins where everyone, regardless of mobility, can experience the beauty of Door County, Wisconsin.

We’ve searched for years to find the right place, and we finally found it: 11 acres of peaceful woods and shoreline along Europe Lake. A place where healing woodlands meet gentle water access — the perfect setting to rest, recharge, and reconnect.

Accessibility is deeply personal to us. Both Jeremiah and Chad use wheelchairs for mobility, and our youngest son lives with cerebral palsy. We know firsthand how difficult it can be to find truly accessible vacation spaces. That’s why this dream matters so much — because everyone deserves to enjoy nature without barriers.

To help make this vision possible, we’re also establishing a non-for-profit organization. Our mission is to offset accessibility costs and make these cabins welcoming to families, friends, and individuals who need them most.

This is only the beginning, and we’re thrilled to bring you along on the journey. We’ll be sharing updates as we grow, build, and take each step toward turning these 11 acres into a place of belonging, rest, and joy.

Stay tuned — and thank you for being part of this dream with us.

Why We're Building Europe Lake Cabins: Our Story of Accessibility, Family, and Adventure

Posted November 26, 2024 • by AccZess Europe Lake Cabins

Hello and welcome to AccZess Europe Lake Cabins!

We’re the DeGuire family — Kristy, Jeremiah, and our three kids — alongside our great friend Chad. We're a tight-knit crew with a shared love for nature, travel, and adventure.

But there’s something else that connects us: mobility challenges.
Jeremiah and Chad both use wheelchairs, and our youngest son has cerebral palsy and walks with the help of a forearm crutch or walker.
We know firsthand how challenging it can be to find places that are truly accessible — especially in beautiful, rustic settings.

That's why we decided to dream big and build it ourselves:

  • Fully accessible cabins

  • Adaptive outdoor experiences

  • Trails, docks, and spaces where everyone belongs

In 2024, we purchased 11 stunning wooded acres on the shores of Europe Lake in Door County, Wisconsin. Over the past year, we've been busy planning, researching, designing, and dreaming.

We’ve just completed our wetland protection work, finalized the first cabin floorplans, and plan to break ground this fall!

Our mission is simple:

To create a place where families, friends, and adventurers of all abilities can connect with nature, recharge, and make lifelong memories.

We invite you to follow our journey, share your ideas, and — one day soon — stay with us.

Thank you for believing in this dream.
Thank you for supporting accessibility and inclusion.
We can’t wait to welcome you to AccZess Europe Lake Cabins.

Recent Updates: Our Commitment to Safeguarding our Land

Posted November 26, 2024 • by AccZess Europe Lake Cabins

We've been keeping busy behind the scenes! Given the sensitivity of our land and our desire to protect it, we decided to hire an environmental engineer to conduct an official wetland delineation. This has helped us identify areas we must preserve during construction and those we are committed to safeguarding. That process spanned from June to October!

Meanwhile, we've all been dreaming about the future of our space. Our 11-year-old daughter made me especially proud - she came to me with her own design for our cabin!  Check it out; I think she did an incredible job!
